What changed. We changed how this policy describes Runotoon: we operate the Service and publish its works together with Production Partners, and we are responsible for handling reports about content. You can now report content through our reporting form, without an account; email still works.
Runotoon operates a digital storytelling and entertainment service. We collaborate with production studios and creative teams (“Production Partners”) to develop, co-produce and publish the works on it. We respect the rights of creators and rights holders and expect everyone who uses the Service to do the same. This policy explains how rights in the works on Runotoon are held, how to report content you believe infringes your rights or is otherwise unlawful, and what we do with your report. It forms part of our Terms of Use, and words defined there have the same meaning here.
1. Rights in the works on Runotoon
Rights in each work are governed by the applicable production and rights agreements between Runotoon and its Production Partners. Describing a studio as a Production Partner does not mean that Runotoon owns every right in every work. Under those agreements, a Production Partner confirms to us, for what it contributes to a work, that:
- it owns that contribution, or holds a licence that allows it to be made available on Runotoon, in every country and language in which the work is offered;
- it has every permission needed from co-authors, artists, performers, translators, composers and anyone else whose work, voice or likeness appears in it;
- it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy, personality or other rights; and
- it allows us to host, translate, subtitle, adapt to other formats, promote and sell access to the work on the Service.
Production arrangements do not limit any responsibility Runotoon has under applicable law. Runotoon is responsible for operating the Service and handling reports concerning content made available through it, as described below.
2. How to report content
If you believe that content on Runotoon infringes your rights, is unlawful or violates our content rules, use our reporting form. You do not need an account. You can also write to [email protected] with the subject “Copyright report”. For a copyright report, include:
- your full name, your organisation (if any) and your email address;
- the work you believe is infringed and, if you are acting for the rights holder, your authority to act for them;
- the exact address (URL) of each title or episode on Runotoon that you are reporting;
- an explanation of why the content infringes your rights, for example that you are the author and have not licensed it to anyone who supplies it to us;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder or by law, and that the information in your report is accurate and complete; and
- your full name as your signature.
If a report is incomplete, we may ask you for more information before we act on it. Submitting a report does not automatically establish a violation.
3. What happens next
- We confirm that we have received your report.
- A member of our team reviews it. We do not use automated systems to decide on reports. While we review a report, we may unlist the content.
- If the report is substantiated, we remove or restrict the content in some or all countries. If it is not, we tell you why.
- Where relevant, we tell the Production Partner concerned what we did and why, and it may respond. If it shows that the necessary rights are held, for example with a licence that covers the use, we may restore the content, and we will tell you.
- We tell you our decision and how you can challenge it, including before the courts.
If the ownership of rights in a work is disputed, we may restrict the content while the dispute is resolved, and we comply with any court order.
4. Repeated infringement
If works from a Production Partner receive repeated substantiated reports, we may remove them and end our agreement with it. We may also withhold payments for disputed works as that agreement allows.
5. Misuse of reports
Please report only content you believe in good faith is infringing. A report you know to be false may make you liable for damages. We may, after a warning, stop processing reports from anyone who repeatedly sends reports that are manifestly unfounded.
6. Runotoon content copied elsewhere
If you find works from Runotoon, or our translations of them, copied on other sites or apps, please tell us at [email protected] with the address where you found them. We will pass the information to the rights holders concerned and may act on their behalf.
7. Our responsibility
Runotoon is responsible for operating the Service and handling reports concerning content made available through it, as this policy describes. The limitations of liability in our Terms of Use apply to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in this policy limits our obligation to act on valid reports under the law, any liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
8. Contact
For anything about this policy, write to [email protected]. It is also our single point of contact for users and for public authorities under the EU Digital Services Act. You can write to us in English. How we handle the personal data in a report is described in our Privacy Policy.
