Runotoon chooses and orders titles for you on Home (for example “For you”, “Because you watched”, “Hot in your format” and “New for you”) and in Shorts. This page explains what we use to do that and how you can change it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data.
What we use
In order of how much they usually count:
- What you do on Runotoon: the titles you open, play, unlock, love, save or hide, and the Shorts you watch to the end. Recent activity counts more than older activity.
- How alike titles are: titles whose story, genre and tropes are close to ones you liked.
- What is popular now: what readers watched and unlocked most in the last 7 days, in the format or language you use most.
- The tastes you chose: the formats, genres and stories you picked after signing up, until your own activity takes over.
- A little exploration: one title in each row is chosen partly at random from good matches, so new titles get a chance and your rows don’t keep repeating.
We do not use information about you from other websites or apps, and we do not use your email address, payment details or the answers you gave about yourself (such as gender or sexual orientation) to recommend titles beyond what the next section says.
What we never recommend
- Titles marked 18+, unless you turned on Show 18+.
- Titles you hid.
- Boys’ Love and Girls’ Love titles in your personal rows, unless you turned on “Personalize Boys’ Love / Girls’ Love”. Until then, watching them never shapes your recommendations.
- Titles you already started or bought, in rows meant for something new.
Your choices
In Settings → Privacy you can:
- Turn off personalization (“Personalized homepage”). You then see the same rows as everyone (new arrivals, what’s trending, genres) on every device, Shorts in an order that doesn’t follow your activity, and no picks based on your activity in our emails and notifications.
- Reset your recommendations. We ignore your earlier activity on the homepage, in Shorts and in our messages, and start again from what you do next.
- Allow or stop personalizing Boys’ Love / Girls’ Love titles. Turning it off removes them from your personal rows and from what our recommender knows about you.
You can also hide any title from its card, and see which titles you hid in Settings.
Tests
We sometimes compare two ways of choosing titles by showing each to a share of visitors, to keep the one readers enjoy more. Which way you see is decided at random and does not depend on who you are.
Who runs it
Our recommender runs on our own servers. To tell how alike titles are, we have Cloudflare process each title’s name, genre, tropes and description; no personal data is sent for this.
